The leaders of all ethnic groups in Federal University Otuoke have cried out on the lack of funds they've been experiencing and running their various offices on zero account since they got into office.

A delegation of the leaders of these ethnic groups led by (Comr.) Oba Lamina Adekunle, who is the leader of all OODUA students while addressing a congress during a joint SUG meeting held on Tuesday 15th lamented that their various associations have been running their various offices on zero account due to lack of funds.

"It was as a result of this that we the leaders of these various ethnic groups decided to come together and think about the situation and we decided to approach the student union government, asking for allocation from the SUG dues paid by students of FUO" he said.

This triggered the congress as the reactions from all congressmen present in the meeting was against this plea. Comr. John, the president of Political Science department kicked against it and suggested that they seek permission from the school management to include their fees in the school fee schedule.

Comr. Blessed Frank, Faculty President of Humanities and Social science, Hon. Comr. Michael and Hon. Comr. Abiri suggested they send this as a bill to the legislative house instead of the way and manner in which they are requesting for this money.

If your association is duly registered with the school then I believe you have the rights to levy every member of your association because we know, an organization cannot run with out funds but aking for allocation from dues paid to the union as dues is not possible because these as different bodies. Comr. Kehinde noted while also speaking on the issue.

The speaker of the union Legislative arm, Hon. Comr. Preye while addressing the issue told the Oba to go back to other leaders of the various ethnic groups in the institution and discuss with them on how much they want to levy their members. Once that is decided, they should send it as a bill to the Legislative chambers after which the house deliberate on it and make its final decisions and amendments where necessary. Once that is concluded, it will be passed into law and then they can levy their members while they are paying their school fees

The president made it clear that the fees paid as SUG fees have already been divided into 3 which is, one for the Union, the Faculties and lastly the departments so from where of whose quota will the allocation be coming from? He categorically made it clear that such a request can't be granted but if they have events or functions, the union can voluntarily make donations to support them but not allocating fund to all the groups from monies paid by students as dues.

The President concluded that they should go by the advice of the speaker of the parliament and once that is done, the union can now start making moves with the school management to levy members of these various associations when paying their school fees but where this fails then they will have to think of how to get their members pay their dues as at when due.
