The event which was held yesterday 6th June, 2017 at the conference hall, skills acquisition centre, Federal University Otuoke; though it started a little bit behind schedule but it was wonderful. Immediately the presence of the VC was noticed, the event kicked off with the recognition of key principal offices to the high table among which were Prof. Seth Accra Jaja, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, accompanied by his beautiful wife, the Registrar, Dean of student affairs, dean of deans, the ex-SUG executives, Eleco committee. The VC in his opening remark thanked his wife for accompanying him to the occasion, the registrar Mr. Kenneth, dean of deans and other protocols.

“When I resumed duty as the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, I met a vibrant Student Union Executives but to correct things and make them look the way they are in other universities, I decided to make them the Student Union Government instead of executives and today, the body I inherited is handing over the baton to another government for the period of time under consideration” he said. He also went further to commend the election committee (Eleco) for conducting a free, fair and credible election which brought about the peace every other key player is enjoying today.

The Registrar, Mr. Kenneth Sonradein in his opening remark advised to executives and all those being inaugurated into various positions in the SUG to remember the primary reason they came to school in the first place which was to study. “What you have done is because you have confidence and that confidence has made you to do what you have done. You are here to study and continue to do so because this university is a university of first class and so do things that would make us proud of you after now”.

The Dean of student affairs Dr. Omoro also appreciated God for making the entire process peaceful and successful and thanked the students for coming out to vote during the Election Day despite the rainfall.

Finally the VC used this medium to thank everyone that attended the event. As part of his closing remark, directed the Director of academic planning and Dean of student affairs to organize a one day seminar for the new SUG executives as “babies that have not received training on how to manage student unionism” within the next 2 weeks. He also instructed the Registrar within the next two week to provide twenty four uniforms to the Man O’ War as support and likewise provide an honorarium to the Eleco in appreciation for the successful election they conducted.
