STUDENT WEEK DAY 3: CULTURAL DAY

After the flashy curtain raiser of the jean carnival and the impressive old school outfits of the second day, Tuesday; one must be forgiven to think that the students week have seen its best already but then the cultural day sparked more enthusiasm and excitement as different ethnic groups in the school displayed their cultural attires and the nitty - gritty which in a way make up the basis of their culture.

Just when the weather was about unleashing its cold rain, the students took a drastic step in other to showcase their beautiful cultural attires irrespective of the weather condition. The fuss about the cultural day was already echoing early in the morning to lay a promise in the mind of the students, the different ethnic groups made their voices heard very early so that their fearless nature gathered grounds before hand, so they paraded with their konga drums hitting the hell out of the chilling cold breeze of the early morning.

Just as one would expect, the canopies were positioned at the field, the Dj got his musical instrument well positioned too as expectations gathered momentum. As the evening drew close, it was time for the long awaited cultural display to form shape and it eventually got off on a bright note as three emcees (Mc Desire, Mc Igbotic and Mc Warri Pikin) joined forces to make the people feel the grove alongside what they can get with their eyes. Important dignitaries graced the occasion, the vice chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, prof. Seth Accra Jaja was in attendance alongside the Deputy Vice Chancellor prof. Teddy Adias, the general manager of UBA bank, Otuoke branch. Dr. Joseph Umoro, dean of students life and the popular Dr. Sacrates, among others were all present at the event.

The event kicked off with an opening prayer which immediately ushered in the introduction of the dignitaries by the emcees and in due procession, the different ethnic groups were invited to parade themselves round the open space one after the other as the noise from the drums continued to make the atmosphere lively.

Indeed it was fascinating to see the different ethnic groups showcase their cultural dance....the Akwa Ibomites displayed their ever exciting Ekombi dance and the Ijaw tribe flashed a glimpse of their wrestling strength with their men throwing nets over the field, reminding us of their fishing expertise. The ever present Igbos showed the crowd their lively side as their noise and dance steps echoed energy and zeal.

THE SAGA BEGINS

The Delta, Edo, Northern students also proved a match for others as they represented their rich cultures in a mouth watering fashion.

The fireworks greeted the atmosphere as the event came to a close with the different tribes serving their rich soups. The Igbos also used the platform to coronate some of their students into greater positions.

The occasion was largely successful and massively attended by the students and neutrals and remains one of the most organised cultural day ever to toe the west campus.
